With the different devices, they can have the same driver , it's because they all use the same chip manufacturer. Have you tried using a CD cleaner? Even though DVD drives are dirt cheap compared to what they used to cost, there's no real reason to spend the cash unless you're sure the problem is with the drive The CD/DVD drive again appeared to be working properly in Device Manager. Thanks for your responses, though. My coworker also said the floppy drive (which I know for sure was a floppy drive and not a zip drive) should not be on the same cable as the CD/DVD
It is not available in the driver download section of Dell.com, I Googled it and just found bulliten boards full of complaints. If you receive notification from a program or a manufacturer that a newer driver is available, it would be a good idea to check the release notes and see what’s different Register now! The CD/DVD drive again appeared to be working properly in Device Manager.
I probably will end up replacing the drive. A driver update may also improve stability and performance, or may fix issues with games, programs and power management. The only thing I noticed is that it seemed to work better as a slave with nothing on the master. This system is at my job, and I may not be able to get back to it (found out that I don't have the clearance to go to the machine unsupervised,
